Cruising Along

August 15, 2008 · 3 Comments

Kate and I hosted my family from India this week. I was able to clear out most of my work schedule to show them the sites. Entertaining guests can be hectic. On limited sleep, it can be quite difficult. Entertaining guests on limited sleep while caring for a three month old baby is just plain crazy. Throw in an early morning court appearance in freakin Fremont and what you get is sick. But we had fun, and it’s always nice to be reminded of what a beautiful place this is.

On Wednesday, Kate and I celebrated our third wedding anniversary. We took a boat ride around the bay, had a cocktail then enjoyed a home cooked Indian meal. Later that evening, we watched our wedding dvd, held hands and shed a few tears. Three years, a house, two cats and a beautiful baby boy and I still get giddy when I see this face.

Reality Check

August 12, 2008 · 3 Comments

Kate went back to work last week and our new schedule, our new life has taken shape. Her maternity leave was a splendid time for all. Road trips, hikes and trips to the beach. The sun shined, the fog cooled and our beautiful baby smiled.

We still wake up at an unreasonably early hour, I still put on a suit, travel to a courthouse somewhere in the East Bay, argue, counsel and beg for a few hours. But when I come home by midday, Kate passes me the baby and flies out the door to catch the 12:26 BART to the city.

She works the afternoon shift while I warm bottles, change diapers and make up new songs. We walk to downtown Berkeley, I run errands and Bodhi smiles at homeless people who talk to themselves. We even go hiking.

Caring for a baby is much more difficult when doing it alone. Mad props to those who do it all day, everyday. But it’s such a blessing for us to be with our baby and still get out into the real world everyday. Team Chhabra is in full effect.

I’m more tired and have totally been lagging on this web log. But more posts are coming and, one day, I definitely plan on writing about something other than my baby. Though what could be more compelling than this?
